Food Review 15: Nandos at Plaza Masalam

To mark the last post of our blog, we went out for dinner together to review the best chicken on planet. WE WENT TO NANDOS! PERI PERI CHICKEN!

If you've never tried Nandos, I don't know what to say.

Here's some tips! You get to choose (if you want to eat the chicken that is, they have tons of other options as well -- burgers, pitas, salads, you name it!) between 1/2 chicken, 1/4 chicken, or the butterfly breast chicken.

The flavours are garlic and herb, mild, hot and extra hot. I'd recommend hot if you're into spicy food!

Next, you get to choose either two regular sides or one large side. I always order salad and peri chips because their salad is super fresh and super good!

Izzah ordered wedges and garlic bread as her side dishes. We both ordered the butterfly chicken breast as our main course.

As always, Nandos never disappoints! The service was really good too, I kept asking for refills for my bottomless Iced Lemon Tea and the waiter didn't seem to mind at all :)

Nandos: 6/5

Food Review 14: Fraado ABC Seksyen 2

I went to seksyen 2 this evening to burn my group's radio drama cd and we had it done almost at dinner time so we decided to eat at the food court nearby. One of my teammate said there was a very famous ABC that you were not allowed to miss it. So here it is !

FRAADO ABC SEKSYEN 2

it was very famous that all of the people in the food court ordered it and i did once heard a few of my friends talked about this one.

They have cendol, nuts fruit, waffersticks and a scoop chocolate ice cream. It was that good that my friend had finished half of it before our dinner arrived. The price was very affordable which only cost you RM 3.50 each

so gave this one 5/5 :)

Food Review 13: Meatballs with Mashed Potato, IKEA

This meatballs rocks ! For that particular day, they served the meatballs with the mashed potato. i don't mind as long as i had some carbohydrate on my plate. Usually they had french fries.

i always that the 10 pieces portion because it is enough to make me full. You ate this meatballs with sweet rasberry jam (at first i thought it is kinda weird to eat meatballs with jam but it was actually good ! )

and it cost in range of RM 10 to RM 15 depends on how many meatballs you want. 5, 10 or 15 pieces.

i gave this one 4/5

Food Review 12: Mutton Soup at Pelita, USJ, Subang

Pelita is my dad's favourite mamak restaurant and one of the compulsary food we always ordered is the mutton soup. It is not the ordinary soup. You can taste the spices in the whole bowl and the muttons were tender. No problem at all to eat it. It cost me around RM 6 to RM 7.

whenever you want to come here, take the plain rice and asked for kuah campur and take this mutton soup as the compliment. The best dishes you can have in mamak restaurant

i gave this one 4/5 ;)

Food review 11: Macaroons at Komugi, Subang Parade

i had always love to eat macaroons and it is one of my favorite dessert even it could cost me around RM 3 to RM 4 per pieces

whenever i went to the Subang Parade, Komugi will be my first destination to have a few pieces of the macaroons. They have a lot of flavor and each of them cost me RM 4. The macaroons are big so i think the price is reasonable

I had tried a few of the flavor with different color and all of it taste absolutely delicious

I gave this one 5/5

Food Review 10: Cupcakes at Just Heavenly, Pavillion

I tried the Sinful Chocolate cupcakes and the infamous Red Velvet cupcakes at Just Heavenly, Pavillion. Just Heavenly also has another branch at Bangsar Village II.

Priced at RM 8.90 each, it is quite a price to pay for cupcakes, but I promise you that this is the best cupcakes in town -- I've already tried a lot. The portion is generous, I could not finish the cupcake in one helping.

Look at the cream cheese! Its not just the topping, they even put cream cheese inside. The cupcake itself is moist.

The topping for the cupcakes is very rich. The Red Velvet cupcake is the best seller, but other cupcakes are just as nice. Try it!

Food Review 9: Fettuccine Carbonara at D'Maya Brasserie

D'Maya Brasserie is actually Hotel Maya's in-house restaurant. Hotel Maya is located nearby KLCC.

You'll have the option whether to choose spaghetti or fettucine for the carbonara, but I chose fettuccine because I read an article about different type of pasta and what sauce goes best with them -- and fettuccine blends well with carbonara.

The presentation of this food is not that aesthetically pleasing, but once you taste it the appearance does not matter anymore. It is one of the most delicious carbonara I've ever tasted! Priced at RM 40, it might be a little bit overpriced, but it is worth it. If you eat at other fancy restaurants, this price is actually the standard price. The difference is that D'Maya Brasserie's food actually matches the standard of the price.

I would definitely recommend this place.

Food Review 8: Sakura Fuji, Plaza Masalam, Seksyen 9

Today i was having a very rare lunch with my mother this afternoon. We went to Plaza Massalam at Seksyen 9 in Shah Alam. Menu of the day is

UNAGI TAMAGO DONBURI & MINI UDON
which mean rice topped with roasted Eel, onion, and egg served with bowl of noodle, salad & dessert

They cooked the eel perfectly, it doesn't smell and the meat was so tender

with compliment of Avacado smoothies (chef recommendation)

the main dish cost me around RM 32.00 and RM 13.90 for the smoothies

i give this meal 3/5 star

Food review 7: Coconut shake, Uptown Shah Alam, Seksyen 24

Me and my housemates were walking around at the Uptown Shah Alam, seksyen 24 looking for new phone cases and we stopped by at this stall. I had heard about the coconut shake but never give a try. So we decided to have one

I tell you it taste sooooo good. They don't blend it smoothly and you can still taste the coconut pieces in the coconut shake and they sprinkled a lot chocolate rice and only cost you RM 5. Reasonable price for such portion

I cann't wait to buy it again

i gave this one 5/5

Food Review 6: Cinnabon, Sunway Pyramid

Let us introduce one of the popular dessert by Cinnabon, Sunway Pyramid:

CHOCOLATE PECAN CINNAMON ROLL

why i am attached to this dessert because of the pecan that give some course texture, some crunches that blend well with the sweetness of chocolate. see the yellow sauce on top? that is one of the best compliment <3

they have plenty of flavor but i like something with nuts better

they have 2 kind of portion, a small or the big one. i think the big one is the best portion but if you just wanna give a try the small one will be good and this portion cost you RM 5.80

i gave this food 5/5, star struck

Food Review 5: Dubu-Dubu Urban Korean Food, Sunway Pyramid

It was in the fasting month and i went to Sunway Pyramid Mall with my bestfriends. We found a shop called Dubu-Dubu Urban Korean Food, and decided to give a try (watching too much korean drama made me curious about their food)

We gave a try on the meal set of 2 (but we bought 2 of that because we were 4) and it cause us RM90 ++
which i thought quite reasonable because we were given a lot of food. Some of my favorite are:
*Soondobu Jigae (beef)
*Korean spicy wing (
literally spicy, no kidding)

I recommend this food to those who like spicy food and something Asian that suit your taste

the portion is enough for each of us and i am giving 4/5 for these dishes :)

Food Review 4: Me'nate Steak House

Rib eye steak, medium well cooked with black pepper sauce.

Me'Nate Steak House is located at Ampang. This restaurant specialises in Western food; especially steak. The meat is specially flown in from Australia every week. Only the best cow and meat are chosen. The chef used to work for the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace as a butcher -- hence the vast knowledge of meat and style of cooking.

I tried the Rib-Eye Steak and I chose it to be medium well. For people who don't usually eat steak, this is the best option because it is fully cooked and there is no blood.

The steak was perfectly cooked. I  took a photo of the pinkish meat because that is how a medium well steak is supposed to look like.

It is really delicious. The black pepper sauce and mashed potato with gravy are the best out of all Western restaurants I've tried. The coleslaw is freshly made in their kitchen, all using their own recipe.

In terms of service, it is fast even though the restaurant is a bit stuffy. During peak hours it can be really crowded but it is worth it.

There are bottomless drinks provided for every meal you purchase. I highly recommend this steak place because the chef really knows his stuff.

Food Review 3: Sushi Zanmai

Inari Soft Shell Crab

Sakura Sushi Roll

I have tried several Japanese restaurant, but this is my first time at Sushi Zanmai. It has a lot of branches with different names; Ozen Zanmai, Zanmai, and Hokkaido Sushi. Its owned by the largest sushi company in Malaysia, SuperSushi Sdn Bhd.

There are several outlets -- at Avenue K, Sunway Pyramid, Nu Sentral, Fahrenehit 88 and Paradigm Mall.

The one that I've tried is the Avenue K and Sunway Pyramid's outlet.

Inari Soft Shell Crab

Inarizushi (Inari) is a simple and inexpensive type of sushi, in which sushi rice is filled into aburaage (deep fried tofu) bags. Soft shell crab is a type of crab that can be eaten entirely including their exoskeleton. The combination of sushi rice and soft shell crab gives an interesting flavour for your taste bud because it feels rich and salty. Its topped with salmon roe which gives the perfect finish.

Priced at RM 8.90 for two pieces, it is actually an affordable price because soft shell crab are known to be expensive.

Sakura Sushi Roll

Topped of with monroe, mayonnaise and dry shrimp; this sushi is the best. It is stuffed with crab and avocado with sushi rice. Priced at RM 13.90, it is worth it because the serving is generous. It looks small, but it is actually really fulfilling.

I've never been to any other Japanese restaurants after I tried Zanmai. It is so good that its on a standard on its own.

Food Review 2: Secret Recipe at Ole Ole, Seksyen 18

I just when back from a camp. It was tiring and exhausting and that lead to my craving for secret recipe. Me and my housemates was wandering around in Seksyen 18 and decided to have our dinner at the secret recipe. My favorite is always the seafood macaroni cheese from SR but i thought trying something new

DINNER SET CHICKEN BLACKPEPPER, WITH MUSHROOM SOUP AND  ICE LEMON TEA

It only cost me RM 19 ++  (not including with service charge and government tax) and the chicken was nice. It tasted a little bit hot because of the black pepper but it was good if you were having flu :) I am not very satisfied with the rice but it didn't effect much. The mushroom soup was nice and i suggested you to eat it with the corns that came with the chicken

unfortunately the service was bad :(

and i give this food 3/5 marks

Food Review 1: Al-Rafi Bistro at Seksyen 18 Shah Alam

Sweet and Sour Chicken Rice

Al Rafi Bistro is located at Seksyen 18 Shah Alam, right next to the Akasia college, one of the residential hostels provided for INTEC's student. This bistro is famous with the students because it is the nearest and most convenient, but other locals also hang around here a lot because of the good food.

I decided to try something new on the menu; the type of food that most people would not order at a "mamak" or a bistro because it is generally not their specialty. I ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken Rice. It is priced at RM 7.00 per meal, which is quite pricey for a plate of rice and chicken compared to other restaurants, but I wanted to try it anyway.

When the food arrived, the criteria I judged was:

The Portion.

- It is a generous portion; worth the price. The amount of rice is proportional to the chicken and sauce.

The Taste

- The sweet and sour sauce was balanced and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Since the chicken is cut into small pieces, it blended well with the sauce because we can easily dip pieces of the chicken with the sauce. The combination of it is really delicious.

Overall, I would say that the food is worth the price. The service at Al Rafi Bistro is also good; food and drinks are served fast even if the place is swarming with people.

4/5
